If you want to have your family member(s) come over to Japan to live with you, you will need to arrange their COE (Certificate of Eligibility) as a financial supporter, for them to be permitted to stay as your "dependent".

- The "family member(s)" means your spouse or child/children; it does NOT include your parents, siblings, or relatives.
- The application should be made at the Sendai Immigration Bureau.
- The COE is usually issued about 2-4 weeks after application.

▶▶ Required Documents:

・Application for Certificate of Eligibility for Status of Residence (Dependent)" with an ID photo (in size of 4×3 cm)
A photo in color would be the best. -This image will be used not only for COE but also for their Residence Card after they arrive.
・Photocopy of the Applicant's Passport
・Documents certifying the personal relationship between the applicant and the person who is to support him or her. such as
- Marriage Certificate - if applying for your spouse
- Birth Certificate(s) - if applying for your child(ren)-A Birth Certificate can NOT be a document for your spouse.

・Documents regarding the supporter
- Financial Statement (Scholarship Certificate Letter, MEXT Scholarship Certificate, Bank Balance Statement with enough amount, Certificate of RA or TA, etc...)
- Certificate of Enrollment
- Photocopy of Passport
- Photocopy of Residence Card (front and back)

・Self-addressed Return-mail Envelope with 404 yen stamp

*Some additional documents may be required upon request from the Immigration Bureau.
