I study on a synthesis of new materials and the growth of single crystals with high quality, and the physics of strongly correlated electron systems. In order to obtain new materials, we use various solid-state chemical methods. For example, in high-pressure synthesis, samples are synthesized by holding raw materials under special conditions of 1000 degrees and tens of thousands of atmospheres. Generally, the crystal structure depends on both temperature and pressure, so even if the chemical composition is the same as that of a known material, phases with different crystal structures (called polymorphs) may be stabilized, or materials that cannot be synthesized at room pressure may be obtained. We perform electrical, magnetic, thermal, and optical measurements on the obtained materials, and study on quantum phenomena such as superconductivity and quantum spin liquids, etc.

When I was a high school student, I read an article about superconductivity in a physics textbook and became interested in it. When I was the fourth grade in the university, I chose a laboratory specializing in superconductivity, and I was captivated by the fun of superconductivity and have continued to study on superconductivity to this day.

We recently discovered a new binary material during the graduation research of an undergraduate student by using a high-pressure-synthesis method. We are almost past the first quarter century of the 21st century. Currently, computational and experimental techniques are highly developed, and the accuracy of various predictions made by AI is improving. Even in such modern times, I was amazed at how mysterious nature is when I witnessed the fact that there are unknown binary materials.
