1.What kind of the research are you doing?

I am interested in investigating arithmetic properties, especially the values of zeta functions (limit values of the sum of certain numerical sequences), and the fascinating phenomena (structures) that occur in the sets of such values. One of the themes can be said to be the study of the relationships that exist among various zeta functions or among their special values. Because they are simple objects, the captured phenomena can be feeled natural and harmonious. It is an intersection of various mathematics, from tangible to abstract objects, and can also be seen as a model for various objects that appear in a wide range of fields spanning mathematics and theoretical physics. For this reason, the methods used in research are diverse, and the field is based on algebraic, geometric, and analytical perspectives, and incorporates a wealth of theories known in each field.

2.What is the reason for starting your study?

Since I was a child, I have loved looking at numerical tables and sequences, and I have been interested in finding patterns like symmetry and periodicity. Even if they were already known facts, I was happy when I discovered aspects, such as how they could be seen as more symmetrical, periodic, or interpreted as simple patterns by changing the perspective. I think it's because the phenomena have become more familiar. Observations like these are still essential to my research. Although I like continuous phenomena, I also love observing discrete phenomena and discovering the innocent principles that lie behind them. For me, this is an important means of approaching the essence of such objects. Therefore, I look at various phenomena, not only numerical tables or sequences, over and over again. The observational eye is a mysterious thing, because what we notice or imagine is not always the same every time. Conjectures and results based on such multiple observations led to an approachable and simplified understanding of phenomena and objects, and were easily familiar to pure mathematics, including number theory. I think I was accepted by the deep bosom of pure science, where the wonders of harmony often occur.

3.Message for prospective students

Don't be influenced by the reactions, values, or speed of those around you, and value your own awareness.Even if your question or your feeling of discomfort is small and cannot be called a discovery, even if it is something that no one cares about, please value yourself for noticing and thinking about it.
In some sense, studying up to high school may be a learning method with a high success rate designed for average students. When I was a student, I was not good at paying attention to a lecture until the end, and I feel like the progress of each lecture was too fast for me. I thought I was listening intently, but the many questions and surprises I felt along the way sent me flying into another world, and I think there were many times when I found myself in a state of delusion and wandering. When I came back to my senses, the lecture was already far ahead and I became gibberish. This made it difficult to get good grades, and I had no choice but to shut down my questions in order to continue listening to the lectures. However, as I entered university, enrolled in seminars, and entered graduate school, I realized that this storm of inevitable questions and mysteries was a rich source of research. Questions and surprises that many people don't care about, but that stuck with me, were the starting point of my original research. Then I was allowed to indulge to my heart's content in things that interest me and thoughts that are valuable to me. Therefore, never underestimate your own awareness. Be sure to cherish the questions and discoveries that are of value to you, even if they are not immediately evaluated. Even if you feel yourself like you are clumsy or unfit right now, there will definitely be situations where that will actually become a weapon in the wide field of academia. Please do never forget this possibility.
At Tohoku University, I hope that you will have the opportunity to meet a wide variety of people, receive a lot of stimulation, learn a variety of values, see yourself as part of that diversity, and spread your wings into a life where you can take advantage of yourself.
