On November 8th, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) announced that Tohoku University has officially been accredited as Japan's first University for International Research Excellence, following the statutory review process.MEXT initiated the Universities for International Research Excellence Program in 2023 to boost the research capabilities of Japanese universities. We are now expected to have access to the revenue from a 10 trillion JPY fund managed by the government, for enhanced education and research activities.
