MEXT is now accepting a special recruitment for 2020 MEXT Honors Scholarship for privately financed students, who have financial difficulty due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

<Scholrship period & amount>
- Only for January 2021 (one month only)
- 48,000 yen for both undergraduate and graduate students

<Eligibility>
- Privately financed international students at the School of Science whose resident status is "Student" as of January 5, 2021
- Degree course students and research students
- Students who were selected for the 1st MEXT Honors Scholarship Special Recruitment Application are not eligible
- MEXT scholarship students, Government scholarship students (including CSC, Japan-Taiwan Exchange Association, and JICA program), current recipients or candidates of MEXT Honors Scholarship (12-month or 6-month), recipients of JASSO Student Exchange Support Program, and recipients of scholarships that restrict the receipt of this MEXT Honors Scholarship are not eligible
- Special auditing students, special research students, and credited auditors are not eligible

<Handling the COVID-19>
The following conditions must be met.
- Privately financed international students who are applying for or whose resident status is "Student" as of April 1, 2020
- Students whose resident status is "Student" and present in Japan between October 1, 2020 and January 5, 2021

<Conditions>
- GPA of 2.30 or higher and language requirements are required.
(Please refer to the application guide for detailed condition.)

<Required items for application>
- Photocopy of the residence card (both sides)
- Photocopy of JP bank passbook
- Documents proving language proficiency
- Documents verifying the amount of allowance (only if applicable)
- Documents verifying the annual income of the financial supporter in Japan (only if applicable)
- Documents proving the name, amount, and duration of other scholarships (only if applicable)
