1.What kind of the research or work are you doing?

I teach the Global Communication Special (Advanced) Training at the Graduate School of Science, which is a mandatory class at Graduate Program in Spintronics. This program collaborates with leading organizations all over the world and requires our students to participate in overseas university research internships. I aim to help develop students’ communication skills and confidence in using English, and to develop a global perspective, not just a local one. I am also interested in the implementation of Ethics for Scientists courses and content development.

2.What made you interested?

When I was a university student, I had experience learning other languages. I became aware that language learning is a powerful motivator. Firstly, it helps build effective communication skills. Secondly, learning another language helps build emotional intelligence, that is understanding of others in a personal way. Thirdly, language learning works on a humanistic level; it helps you in discussion and expressing different points of view. I hope that I can help my students to explore these three levels of human development, not just for their future careers.

3.Message for prospective students

Tohoku University is a great stepping stone to your future. You have opportunities to develop your research interests. Most importantly however, it is a time when you can broaden your personal interests to include many things outside your field of studies. You will make new friends and find new hobbies. You will also find you are a part of a global world of many wonderful ideas and voices.
