　7月10日にスリーエム仙台市科学館にて、NASAのMichael Zolensky博士をお招きして、市民向けの(小・中・高生を対象とした)宇宙科学講演会を開催致しました。Michael Zolensky博士には、地球外サンプルリターンミッションについて、今までの歴史や、これからのサンプルリターンミッションでの課題や目的などを詳しく解説して頂きました。彗星や小惑星から持ち帰るサンプルを研究するというお話に、参加者も大変興味を持っている様子でした。夢のある内容に加えて、現実的な実情についてもお話し頂けたことで、サンプルリターンミッションについて、一般の方々の理解も大変深まったのではないかと思います。講演後も、Zolensky博士の講演に興味を持った子供たちからの質疑がたくさん寄せられ、大いに盛り上がりを見せた講演会となりました。ご協力賜りました仙台市科学館の皆さま、主催の東北大学知のフォーラム関係者の皆様には深く感謝申し上げます。

We held public lecture meeting about planetary science at Sendai City Science Museum and invited Dr. Michael Zolensky belonging to NASA Johnson space center. Dr. Michael Zolensky lectured about "Astromaterial Sample Returns mission". He talked about history and future problem and purpose　of Astromaterial Sample Returns mission. The participants were very interested in his lecture and asked him many questions. This public lecture meeting was huge success.We had the office staff of Sendai City Science Museum and Tohoku Forum for Creativity at Tohoku University supported for the public lecture meeting. We sincerely appreciate everyone's support.

　7月18日に、東北大学理学研究科青葉サイエンスホールにおいて、東北大学知の創出センター主催の「知のフォーラム市民講演：スーパーエルニーニョと異常気象」を開催しました。参加者は50名を超え、県外からの参加もありました。気候研究で世界をリードするShang-Ping Xie教授（米国カリフォルニア大学サンディエゴ校スクリプス海洋研究所）に、エルニーニョのしくみ、2014年から2016年にかけて発生したスーパーエルニーニョの特徴、このエルニーニョと日本を含む東アジアの異常気象の関係をわかりやすく解説してもらいました。その後、小グループごとの講演内容に関する自由討論の時間をはさんで、活発な質疑応答が行われました。

"Public Lecture - Super El Nino and Extreme Weather," sponsored by the Tohoku Forum for Creativity at Tohoku University, was held at Aoba Science Hall, Graduate School of Science, Tohoku University on July 18. We had more than 50 participants, including those from outside Miyagi Prefecture. Prof. Shang-Ping Xie, a leading scientist in the field of climate research, at Scripps Institution of Oceanography, UCSD, gave plain explanation on mechanism of El Nino, characteristics of the super El Nino event from 2014 to 2016 and its influence on extreme weather in East Asia including Japan. After free small group discussion, all participants enjoyed a plenary lively question-and-answer session.
