  • Academic Fees

    Application fee: 30,000 JPY

    Payment due: TBA (Around the end of Sep. to early October).

    [IMPORTANT]

    If you decide to decline your admission to IGPAS, make sure to inform DiRECT via email no later than July 15, 2013 JST. The application fee will be charged to all the prospective self-financed students after that, no matter if you are actually coming or not.

    in Japanese postal money order at the Academic Affairs Section on Aobayama Campus

    Tuition: 267,900 JPY/semester [Fall 2013]

    This can be extended till March 26, 2014 if you apply for either of:

    deferment or exemption

    How to pay:

    automatic withdrawal from your registered bank account

    This will be around the 25 of every September and March.

    (the second last month of each semester)

    • MEXT students are NOT charged for any of the fees above.
    • Application and Admission fees are NOT refundable.
    • We advise for those who has a governmental scholarship from your home country (or from a private foundation), to email the scanned details to DiRECT in advance . This will make us confirm whether you need to apply for a deferment or not.
    • If you fail to pay the fees by the designated deadlines, you couldl get expelled from school.

    Other charges (Insurances)

    National Health Insurance (Required)

    Foreign nationals who are staying in Japan more than 1 year are required to join the insurance system. You pay the premium, and 70% of medical expense, including dental treatment, are covered by the government.

    Student's Insurance (required)

    All the students at Tohoku University are required to buy the Personal Accident Insurance for Students Pursuing Education and Research (w猤ЊQQی; hereafter referred to as the "Student's Insurance") at the time of their admission.

    The insurance basically covers the physical injuries due to accidents occured during your activities as a student. This will also cover accidents on your way to/from campuses or university facilities. You will find a payment invoice in the admission packet.


    Insurance premium

    Master's students.......1,750 JPY for 2 years
    Doctoral students.......2,600 JPY for 3 years

    Univ. COOP Insurances (optional, but STRONGLY recommended)

    This is the special offer of reasonable insurances to Tohoku Univ. COOP members. All the students can join by depositing 25,000 JPY (refunded at the time of leaving). The membership card can be used as an e-money card at bookstores and cafeterias on campus.
