Scholarships
It is your responsibility to find a scholarship if necessary.You will have some chances to apply for scholarships after you acutually become a student at our school. Unfortunately there are only few scholarships that accepts application before your enrollment (=application from prospective students).
Note that most scholarships, especially those of private foundations, usually require applicants to have adequate Japanese language skill.

Fee Waivers
Tohoku University may give students an admission fee and/or tuition waiver in cases that the student or his/her financial sponsor (e.g. parents) have difficulties paying the fee(s) due to compelling reasons. It is open to all, Japanese and international, degree students in undergraduate and graduate programs.
Note that the results for Fall semester will be announced in December, 2013.
You should also get prepared for all the payments in case you couldn't be waived.

In the academic years from 2008-2010, every semester about 2,000 students (out of about 18,000 degree students) apply for tuition waiver . It has become more competitive in recent years and you should notice the percentage of FULL or a HALF waiver are decreasing. Moreover, the system has introduced a new category, ONE-THIRD exemption, since 2011.

In case a student cannot pay the admission and/or tuition fees by the due dates for legitimate reasons (e.g. your scholarship covers the fees but you receive the money after the due date), Tohoku University will grant the students a moratorium on payment(s) on request.
