Students whose Resident Status is about to expire should visit the Sendai Regional Immigration Bureau for an extension.
Refer to the flowchart below for the detailed procedure.
*Applications can be submitted approximately three months prior to the expiration date.
*Online applications are also available if you have a My Number Card. Please click here for details.

Fees for immigration procedures will increase significantly as of October 1, 2026 (List of revised fees).
If your residency expires by the end of December, you are strongly advised to apply within September.

Be sure to submit your renewed residence card!
Once you receive the new card, please bring it to the Student Support Section or submit a copy via Google Forms.

When your graduation (program completion) will be extended, you will need to extend your period of stay depending on the length of the allowed period. In such a case, please submit additional documents explaining why you need an exension other than the regular application documents. For more information, please refer to the following page:
