  • We ask you to arrive in Sendai by Thursday, September 25, 2014 for the following reasons:

    • ALL the IGPAS students are required to complete the admission paperworks at DiRECT by the LAST business day of September..
    • To complete the paperworks, you must finish the off-campus procedures in advance.
      Off-campus procedures can only be done on weekdays.
    • Some classes start on the very first day of Fall semester, Oct. 1.

    • Thus, it is neccessary for you to reach Sendai at least a day before the date remaining two business days during September.

    Off-campus Procedures


    Here are the procedures you must go through right after your arrival.
    DiRECT will assign you a Supporter to accompany you to complete the following Steps1 to 3.


    It approximately take half a day, starting in the morning to the afternoon.
    Please keep the whole day open.

    DiRECT will email you the appointment summary two days in advance of your arrival in Sendai. (i.e. date & time, where to meet the Supporter, what to bring with you, etc...)
    If you couldn't check it before your departure, please check it at your earliest convenience, by the next business day of your arrival in Sendai if otherwise instructed.

    Things to Bring :
    • Passport
    • Residence Card (if entered Japan from Narita airport)
    • Personal seal (IF you have. Chinese, Korean students may have one)


    Step 1: Address Registration (ZŠ“o˜^)

    You are required by law to register your address at the ward office in charge of your residence area. Our supporter will take you to the designated ward office to register your address and some personal information.


    *The city of Sendai consists of 5 wards(=districts), and each ward has the office: Aoba-ku (Β—t‹ζj, Miyagino-ku (‹{ι–μ‹ζ),Taihaku-ku (‘Ύ”’‹ζ), Wakabayashi-ku (Žα—Ρ‹ζ), and Izumi-ku (ς‹ζ).


    Step 2: National Health Insurance (NHI: ‘–―Œ’N•ΫŒ―)

    You are required by law to sign up for National Health Insurance (NHI), which covers 70% of medical expense when you receive medical treatment when seeing a doctor.
    International students without a certain salary (scholaship excluded) will get a discount on the premium, which is slightly less than 2,000 yen/month for a single person.
    Details will be provided at the orientation.



    Step 3: Bank Account (‹βsŒϋΐŠJέ)

    All students will need to have a bank account at the designated bank to survive.
    You'll get a bankbook and an ATM card (bank card) for each accounts.

    Newly Enrolled Students Orientation by DiRECT

    ALL students of IGPAS are required to attend the orientation.

    In the morning, we'll all work on admission paperwork.
    Completing this will make you officially be a student of School of Science.
    In the afternoon, you'll attend the orientation that covers your campus life, immigration affiars, life in Japan, etc...


    Attend the orientation to get to know other IGPAS students, and get "must-know" information for Science students!

    • Diploma/Certificate of Graduation, or certificate of withdrawal
      (original copy, except for a scanned Diploma)*

    *IF you were a student at the time of application and have not submitted yet.
    Inform DiRECT in advance if you won't be able to submit them at the orientation.
