  • Hotel Reservation

Those who will need a temporary accommodation before moving into a dormitory or an apartment can request DiRECT for a hotel reservation.

The reasonable range of price in Sendai will be about 4,000 to 8,000 JPY per night for a single room. The cost of your hotel is your own responsibility, even if you are a MEXT student.

    Pick-up Service

If you arrive in Sendai between September 16 and 29 2014, DiRECT can arrange you a Supporter to pick you up at JR Sendai Station and to your accommodation.

    • The Pick-up Service is subject to availability before the designated period.
    • The Pick-up Service is not available if you're arriving too early in the morning or too late at night. In such case you will have to get to your accommodation on your own.
    • Supporters will help you carry your luggage but will use public transportation only.
If you need a car, you'll have to catch a taxi with the Supporter on your own expense.
(Sorry, but our supporters will not drive a car.)

Meeting Point in JR Sendai Station

If you request for the pickup service, our supporter will wait for you in front of the Information Office (wē) on the 2nd floor.

Arriving by Access Line from Sendai Airport
You'll arrive at Platform 3 on the 1st floor. Go upstairs and pass the ticket gate. Then go straight and you'll see the stained glass wall in front of you. The Information Office is on the LEFT side of the wall.

    Arriving by Shinkansen from Tokyo
You'll arrive at Shinkansen Platform (#11 to 14) on the 4th floor. Go downstairs and pass the ticket gate(3rd floor). Then go downstairs again to the 2nd floor, and you'll see the stained glass wall in front of you. The Information Office is on the LEFT side of the wall.

    Procedure Assistance

DiRECT will arrange a Supporter to accompany you to offices for necessary procedures (see After Arrival > Procedures). The appointment will be usually set on the next bussiness day of your arrival in Sendai, for example, on Monday if arriving on Friday.

    • The appointment with the Supporter will be fixed and informed from DiRECT, before your departure day to Japan.
    • All IGPAS students are required to be accompanied by a supporter to complete procedures. This is because they are very complicated as well as they could cause a lot of serious problems if not done properly.

    Tutor

Regardless of the need, each IGPAS student has a tutor (=peer advisor, like a buddy).
Your tutor will be a current student appointed by your supervisor from the peer lab members. S/he will help you when you register for courses, have questions about studies and research, and fill in forms in Japanese, and so forth. You can also ask for his/her assistance in your daily life as far as s/he agrees.

Your tutor will be selected in September from your lab by a recommendation from your supervisor, and his/her will take care of you up to 2 semesters from Fall 2014.

    [NOTES]

    What's "Supporter"?

Supporters are current students at School of Science who work particulary to assist newly incoming IGPAS students. They'll pick you up when you arrive in Sendai and take you around to off campus procedures.

Please always ask DiRECT if you need some additional support from them. They are hired by DiRECT and basically needs instructions from us.
