    Application fee: 30,000 JPY

    Payment due: TBA (Around the end of Sep. to early October).

    [IMPORTANT]

    If you decide to decline your admission to IGPAS, make sure to inform DiRECT via email no later than July 15, 2014 JST. The application fee will be charged to all the prospective self-financed students after that, no matter if you are actually coming or not.

    How to pay:

    in Japanese postal money order at the Academic Affairs Section on Aobayama Campus

    IF EXTENDED: in cash at the Cashier on Aobayama Campus



    Tuition: 267,900 JPY for Fall semester 2014

    Payment due:

    November 25, 2014

    This can be extended till March 26, 2015 if you apply for either of:

    deferment or exemption

    How to pay:

    automatic withdrawal from your registered bank account

    This will be around the 25 of every September and March.

    (the second last month of each semester)

    • MEXT students are NOT charged for any of the fees above.
    • Application and Admission fees are NOT refundable.
    • We advise for those who has a governmental scholarship from your home country (or from a private foundation), to email the scanned details to DiRECT in advance . This will make us confirm whether you need to apply for a deferment or not.
    • If you fail to pay the fees by the designated deadlines, you could get expelled from school.

    Insurance

    NHI: National Health Insurance [Required]

    Foreign nationals who are staying in Japan more than three months are required to join the insurance system. Once you join and pay the premium, the 70% of medical expense, including dental treatment, are covered by Sendai city (local government).

    About 2,000 JPY/month for single student.



    Student Insurance [Required]

    All the students at Tohoku University are required to buy the Personal Accident Insurance for Students Pursuing Education and Research (PAS: w猤ЊQQی, Gakkensai; hereafter referred to as the "Student Insurance") conbined with Personal Liability Insurance (wЕtєӔCیFuw Gakkenbaivor utъw Futaigakubaiv) .

    These insurance basically covers the expences for physical injuries and liabilities due to accidents during your activities as a student. These will also cover accidents on your way to/from home and campuses/university facilities. We arrange for IGPAS students to pay them at the time of opening their bank account.


    Insurance premium

    Master's students.......2,430 JPY for 2 years
    Doctoral students.......3,620 JPY for 3 years





    Univ. CO-OP Student Mutual Benefit [Optional]

    This is the special offer of reasonable insurance to Tohoku Univ. CO-OP members. All the students can join the members by depositing 25,000 JPY (refunded at the time of leaving). The membership card can be used as an e-money card at bookstores and cafeterias on campus with 10 to 15 % discounts on books and CDs, etc...
