東北大学知のフォーラム（Tohoku Forum for Creativity）では、2016年7〜10月開催テーマプログラムとして「Earth and Planetary Dynamics」を開催しました。「Earth and Planetary Dynamics」は、4つのワークショップ、サマースクール、2つの講演会で構成され、プログラムの世話人として、理学研究科地学専攻 大谷 栄治 先生、中村 美千彦 先生、中村 智樹 先生、地球物理学専攻 須賀 利雄 先生、ニュートリノ科学研究センター井上 邦雄 先生が参加されています。

　「知のフォーラムEarth and Planetary Dynamics」として、以下のような3つのシンポジウムと夏の学校、そしてアウトリーチの活動が行われました。3つのシンポジウムは「地球深部の揮発性物質循環研究の新展開」「惑星科学と惑星探査の新展開」「大気・海洋の相互作用とダイナミクス」という地球と惑星科学の幅広い分野をカバーするもので、国内外から多くの著名な研究者が参加し、熱心な討論が行われました。10月には、さらに「ニュートリノ研究とその地球の熱進化への適用」というシンポジウムが予定され、これは物理学と地球科学の共同の新たな研究分野として、海外からも注目されています。7月7日～12日に開催された夏の学校では、4つのシンポジウムをカバーする講義が行われ、大学院生は著名な講師の講義から幅広い地球科学とニュートリノ研究の入門と専門の興味深い講義を堪能しました。また、仙台市科学館や理学部で開催された市民講演会には多くの市民学生が著名な海外の研究者の講演を楽しみました。

We have made three symposia covering three important areas in earth and planetary dynamics, a summer school, and two outreach lectures. Titles of three symposia were "New Challenges in Volatile Cycling in the Deep Earth", "Planetary science and planetary exploration", and "Dynamics and Interactions of the Ocean and Atmosphere". These symposia cover very broad area of earth and planetary science, and many active scientists participated and made intimate discussions in these symposia. Another symposium on "Neutrino Research and Thermal Evolution of the Earth", which is a newly developing area covering physics and earth science will be held in next October. Summer school "Frontiers in Earth and Planetary Sciences" was held on July 7 to 12 and it covered the above four areas, with introductory lectures for beginners and advance lectures for the specialists. Graduate students enjoyed the lectures made by the world reading scientists in each area. Two public lectures were made on "Advances in Space Planetary Exploration" and "Ocean and Atmosphere Interactions, and Global Warming" on July 10, and July 18 in Sendai Science Museum and Graduate School of Science of our university. Many of people and high school students enjoyed the lectures.
