Emeritus professor Atsuto Suzuki (former vice-president, former dean of graduate school of science, former director of Research Center for Neutrino Sciences, and current president of Iwate Prefectural University) and the KamLAND Collaborators, and its member Kunio Inoue (director of Research center for Neutrino Sciences) awarded 2016 Breakthrough Prize in Fundamental physics.
The Breakthrough prize in Fundamental Physics is awarded annually for accomplishments in fundamental physics broadly defined, including advances in closely related fields with deep connections to physics by the Fundamental Physics Foundation.
Seven term leaders and the five neutrino oscillation collaborations including 1370 researchers have received the 2016 Breakthrough Prize in Fundamental Physics.
