Workshop & Open Talk Event The 2024 Theme: Creating a Future-Oriented Coastal Community---For the Coexistence of Humans and the Ocean

The coastal regions of Tohoku are currently facing various challenges, including the effects of climate change, natural disasters, and shifts in population that influence fisheries and cultural activities. In response, experts, students, and general publics are coming together for a workshop to explore and share ideas on how people and the ocean can coexist sustainably. Through dialogues spanning environment, culture, and society, this event offers a chance to spark fresh ideas for ocean-related research and coastal communities, as well as opportunities to connect with new collaborators.

The talk session, featuring experts from diverse fields--including ocean physics, ecology, cultural anthropology, socioeconomics, and the fisheries industry--who will discuss key challenges and possible solutions (as part of the workshop open to the public), can also be attended online.
