Institute for Integrated Earth System Science (IESS): International Workshop "Exploring Quantum, Elements, and Life Interactions"

Date and Time:
Special Seminar: May 2nd, 2022, 10:00 am - 11:00 am (JST)
International Workshop: May 9th, 2022, 9:00 am - 12:20 pm (JST)

Abstract of the international workshop:
From the birth of the earth about 4.6 billion years ago to the present, the earth has experienced many climatic and environmental changes, and life has also adapted and evolved to these changes to overcome many extinction crises. Now, as global warming and ocean acidification have become apparent, human activities are beginning to have a significant impact on all subsystems of the earth. In other words, all subsystems of the atmosphere, land, oceans, polar regions, and biosphere are changing in unison at an acceleration that far exceeds natural variations. This cataclysmic change in the Earth system will have direct feedbacks on human life, which depends on the global environment and ecosystems. In this workshop, to clarify the profound question, "What are the earth and human beings?", we will discuss quantum, elements, its circulations, and the interaction between them and life from the standpoint of basic science.
