Call for Applicants of the Specially Appointed Research Fellow

5. Research:

Successful candidate is supposed to conduct the research funded by JSPS Kakenhi; Specially Promoted Science (PI T. Kodama; 1 Apr 2024 - 31 Mar 2031) entitled "Towards Ultimate Subaru: Galaxy formation history probed by deep near-infrared imaging with wide-field adaptive optics".
Conduct research on formation and evolution of distant galaxies, clusters, and large-scale structures based on various observational data.

6. Eligibility:

Applicant must have a PhD degree by the starting date of employment and is expected to have experiences in data processing and analyses in particular imaging/spectroscopic data at NIR/optical wavelength.

7. Deadline:

27 Nov 2024 (in JST)

8. Salary and Benefits:

(1) Salary: to be determined in accordance with the Work Rules for Fixed-Term Employees at National University Corporation Tohoku University and other official regulations. Approximately 4,500,000 JPY per annum~
(2) Employment status: Full Time
(3) Term: 3 years (till 31 Mar 2028)
(Maximum extension till 31 Mar 2030 depending on the performance)
(4) Hours: The discretionary labor system for professional work shall apply.
Flexible Work Hours: The standard working hours are 8:30 to 17:15, but the actual working hours are at the discretion of each employee.
(5) Holidays: Saturdays, Sundays, National Holidays, New Year's Holidays (29 Dec - 3 Jan)
(6) Insurance:
Admission into the MEXT Mutual Aid Association; provision of unemployment insurance and worker's accident insurance

9. Selection:

Primarily based on submitted documents. Interview may also be requested.

10. Application documents (either in Japanese or English) must include

(1) Curriculum vitae
(Follow the format prescribed by the University: Download the resume format.), *including e-mail address and possible date of start of the fellowship.
(2) Summary of past research activities, including experiences in data processing/analyses, and resolution/pretension for the future research,
(3) List of publications (separate refereed and non-refereed papers, and mark three or less main papers),
(4) Letter of recommendation (to be sent directly from the reviewer to Prof. Kodama),
(5) Names and contact addresses of additional (2-3) reviewers who can make comments on the applicant.
Combine all these documents, except for (4), into a single pdf file and send it by e-mail to the address below or indicate a link from where it can be downloaded. Use either English or Japanese for application documents.
