Faculty Position in the Department of Physics, Graduate School of Science, Tohoku University
The Department of Physics, Graduate School of Science, Tohoku University invites applications for one faculty position at the rank of Professor or Associate Professor, as described below.
1. Position
One Professor or Associate Professor
Applicants should indicate in their cover letter their preferred rank: Professor, Associate Professor, or either. The final rank of appointment will be determined based on the applicant's preference, research and teaching record, and the outcome of the selection process.
2. Affiliation
Department of Physics, Graduate School of Science, Tohoku University
Theoretical Particle and Nuclear Physics Group or Theoretical Condensed Matter Physics Group
The successful candidate will be affiliated with one of these groups, depending on their field of expertise and related considerations.
3. Research Field
We seek candidates working broadly in theoretical physics related to quantum science. We particularly welcome researchers who can develop original research in areas connecting particle physics and cosmology, nuclear theory, and condensed matter theory--including fields such as quantum gravity and quantum many-body physics--with quantum information, quantum computing, quantum technologies, and quantum sensing, as well as at the interfaces among these fields.
4. Responsibilities
The successful candidate will conduct research in the areas described above, contribute to undergraduate and graduate education in the Department of Physics, and participate in university administration.
5. Qualifications
Applicants must hold a Ph.D. and have an outstanding research record in theoretical physics related to quantum science.
6. Starting Date
As early as possible on or after June 1, 2027.
7. Terms of Employment
Term: The position is permanent and subject to Tohoku University's mandatory retirement regulations.
Salary: Salary will be determined in accordance with Tohoku University regulations, taking into account the successful candidate's experience and employment history.
